Autumn is my favourite time of year, as it is a time of change in the natural cycle and represents the completion of most plants and animal's annual cycle before winter calls a break until the following spring and the start of the next cycle.
Fruits mature and add a dash of colour to the natural vegetation, trees throw off their leaves in a final riot of colour before the winter sleep - in some ways much like Carnaval in the Latin world - the trees become a procession of glorious colour before the austerity of winter, an equivalent I suppose of the celebration before the onset of Catholic Lent.
As leaves fall to the ground, dry and brittle, their form and structure become more pronounced and rather than being the delicate green shoots of spring, they form a robust and vibrant carpet on the ground.
At the same time, the sun's angle in the sky lowers and the natural light changes from the heavy glare of August to a softer golden light in harmony with nature's final parade.
What follows is a small gallery of photographs taken recently in the grounds of Blenheim Palace and at Kew Gardens. The photographs are mainly of fallen leaves; the full variety of colour form and texture could not be captured in an encyclopedia, let alone one web page but I have tried to show a range of different colours and textures. There are also some landscapes which will compliment the gallery of Blenheim Palace and the new gallery of Kew gardens which is soon to be uploaded.
All the photos are digital and were taken with my Sony DSC T7, which once again has given me some stunning shots.
